That bright burst of light you can see from one of the lower, center windows of The Spirit House, where all of our characters live until brought fully to life on the page -- that's Eleanor. No question. She's packing her things, and getting set for her debutante ball -- her coming-of-age.It is before sunrise on Day 28 -- a long night, and a long day yet ahead. But we're feeling creatively energized.
"To the words!" Eleanor is saying. "To the words!" It's both a toast, and an ongoing challenge.
This is Post No. 200, and although it's Day 28, This Side of Paradise will continue to chronicle Eleanor's journey through a total of 500 posts, all kept on this single page. We hope you'll stay with us, because the journey from words to revision to our agent to the editors -- it's a process, for sure. And in the world of publishing, time can move slower than we like. But that said, time moving slowly gives us more time, as well.
"To the words!" Eleanor is repeating. We must get back to work. And we shall, with no fancy quotes from other writers, just the clickety-clack of our fingers on the keyboard (and the echo from the typewriter in our head). As always, we suggest: "Scroll down." There's a lot to read. And much more to come. For those of you who will continuing on with us, please do check in, even if just once in a while. Your energy and belief transforms itself into energy and belief for us. Without readers, we might as well all go back into The Spirit House. But that said, it's time for a party, don't you think? Who has the martini glasses? Rehab is almost over, and it has served its major purpose -- realigning us with the words, which matter most of all. Thank you -- for reading this far, whether because of voyeuristic curiosity (that's okay -- there's a voyeur in all of us, choose to admit it or not), or because you truly care about Eleanor and her journey. We'll keep going because it's in our blood, and it's our purpose. We cannot deny it, so we embrace it.
